Recently, we handled an worrying case that we believe warrants sharing with other PlayStation 5 Console owners, which was a significant PS5 Console Fire Safety Issue.
In early January, one of our customers experienced a frightening incident when they were awakened by the smell of burning coming from their PlayStation 5. Fortunately, they discovered the issue quickly and prevented what could have been a very serious PS5 Console Fire Safety Issue.
Upon thorough investigation of the PS5 console in our workshop, we discovered that while the PlayStation 5’s internal power supply remained intact, the issue stemmed from the figure-of-8 power socket, which required immediate replacement. What’s particularly noteworthy is that the console’s onboard fuses hadn’t blown, indicating that the fault lay with the power lead itself rather than the console’s internal components.

This incident highlights several crucial points about console safety:
- Always ensure proper ventilation around your gaming console
- Regularly inspect power cables for signs of wear or damage
- Use only official power leads or high-quality certified replacements
- Never ignore unusual smells or sounds from your gaming equipment
We successfully restored the console to full working order by replacing the power socket, and we’re pleased to report that it’s now functioning perfectly. Our customer can resume gaming with peace of mind, knowing their console is now safe.
If you notice any burning smells or unusual behaviour from your gaming console, please disconnect it immediately and seek professional assistance.
