Fig 1

Using a Torx 20 screwdriver, remove the 6 screws as indicated in Fig 1. Turn the XBox over and firmly pull the lid from the bottom of the case chassis. This will reveal the DVD ROM and Hard Disk as in Fig 2.

Remove the IDE and power cables from both the DVD ROM and Hard Disk. Then, using a Torx 10 screwdriver, remove the 3 screws as circled in Fig 3.

Fig 3

Remove Hard Disk by lifting it gently out of the XBox and do the same with the DVD ROM to reveal the XBox mainboard as in Fig 4.

Fig 4

If you wish, you can remove the mainboard from the case by removing the ten screws as indicated in Fig 4. This is not essential, but can be done if you wish, to prevent possible damage to the mainboard.

We now need to remove the front panel from the XBox. Place a medium sized, flat blade screwdriver, as indicated in Fig 5, and gently unclip both sides of the front panel.

Fig 6

With the front panel now removed, the On/Off/Eject PCB can be removed from the front panel by pushing the retaining clip in with a flat blade screwdriver, as in Fig 7.

Fig 7

The On/Off/Eject PCB is then pushed onto the replacement front panel as in Fig 8. This must be seated very carefully in order not to damage the retaining clips on the replacement panel.

The replacement front panel can now be clipped back into position on the front of the case as per Fig 9. At this point, the mainboard can be refitted if it was removed.

Now its time to modify the DVD ROM by removing the 2 screws that hold the lid onto the top of the DVD ROM drive, as in Fig 10. This mod allows you to see the disk spinning in the XBox and looks great - especially if enhanced with an internal light kit!

Fig 10

The magnetic holding disk as indicated in red on Fig 10 must then be pushed from behind to remove it from the lid (its only held on by the paper sticker). You should now have these parts as in Fig 11.

fig11.jpg
Fig 11

Place the magnetic disk in the blue plastic fitting, as in Fig 12 and place the replacement plastic disk over it to hold it in place.

Fig 12

This can now be screwed back into the top of the DVD ROM drive, as in Fig 13.

Now simply replace the DVD ROM, then the Hard Disk, screw into place with the 3 screws removed earlier, place the XBox replacement lid back on the chassis and gently screw the 6 retaining bolts back into the case. Note that the bottom of the case is not replaced during this mod, nor is it supplied with the kit... as you never actually see the bottom of the console!

Please note: When screwing the 6 retaining bolts into the case you are making the threads as you go, if care is not taken, the screw posts could be broken off if you are heavyhanded.

Your XBox should now look like this! Fig 14.

Please note: The XBox Jewel does NOT come with this kit!
